Bolt Accounts

A Bolt Account is created automatically during your initial experience with a Bolt Checkout. Your account saves the contact, shipping, and billing information provided for your first order.

From then on, whenever you visit a site that uses Bolt Checkout, we’ll recognize you by your contact information (email or phone number) and send a verification code to the email or phone number on file. Enter the code to verify your identity, and you’re in!

Bolt uses one-time codes via email or text to verify your identity. You do not need to create a username or password to access your Bolt account.

One-Time Verification Codes

Bolt uses one-time codes, sent via email or SMS (text message), to verify your identity. You do not need to create a username or password to access your Bolt account.

SMS

Logging in through SMS (text message) is the default method.

  1. Fill your cart with items you wish to purchase.
  2. Navigate to checkout.
  3. When proceeding to checkout, Bolt will recognize you as an existing user, and will automatically send a verification code to your phone.
  4. Input this code when prompted.
  5. Complete the remainder of the checkout process.

Email

Don’t have your phone on you? No problem!

  1. Fill your cart with items you wish to purchase.
  2. Navigate to checkout.
  3. When proceeding to checkout, Bolt will recognize you as an existing user, and will automatically send a verification code to your phone.
  4. Select Email me the code.
  5. When prompted, input the code sent to your inbox.
    • If this is your first time logging in via email verification, Bolt may ask you to confirm your phone number. This is a one-time check that we do to make sure it’s really you. Next time you check out with Bolt, you won’t have to do this step again.
  6. Complete the remainder of the checkout process.

It can take up to 10 minutes to receive a verification code email. If you do not receive it, you can attempt to log in via SMS, or continue to check out as a Guest.

Your Information in Bolt

When you set up a Bolt account, we securely save your payment and shipping details so that you can quickly check out across every store participating in the Bolt Network.

How We Handle Your Information

Bolt uses tokens to represent your sensitive information, such as credit card details, during transactions. This is better than using encryption methods, because a token is essentially a randomly generated code word that cannot be solved or decrypted by bad actors.

For example, a credit card 4111 1111 1111 1111 with a CVV of 000 and expiration of 03/2024 would be randomly represented by a token like 0a0b9w493a45ab67d8a9. Outside of the participating system, this token is meaningless. Tokens also expire and are re-generated over time.

One Account is All You Need

Bolt accounts use a combination of one-time passwords and single sign-on technology to put you in the checkout express lane. With a Bolt account, you’ll never have to waste time setting up a store account for a one-time-only purchase, or miss out on rewards points because guest checkout is just easier than trying to remember your login information.

Multiple Stores, Same Information

When you discover a new store participating in the Bolt Network, you can log in and automatically used your saved information to check out. You can manage your payment and shipping information from any participating store’s checkout. Updates persist across all participating store checkouts.
